Gharana Arts Inc.

Goals and Objectives:

Established in 2005, Gharana Arts’ mandate is to bring the artistic traditions of India to a new generation of Canadians and Indo-Canadians, while cultivating a compassionate environment for the development and progression of these art forms.

 

The objectives of Gharana Arts focus on 2 areas: Education and Performance

 

1. Education:

A. Through lectures, workshops, and innovative publications, create an awareness of the value and beauty of Indian classical arts within a modern Canadian context.

B. Establish an institution of learning and research to develop Canadian practitioners of these traditional art forms at a professional level.

 

2. Performance

A. Redefine the quality and level of artistic merit in these classical art forms without compromising on their traditional foundation. Demonstrating through performance the innovation that arises from tradition.

B. Establish an annual Canadian Festival for these arts based in the National Capital Region, explicitly creating a platform for all artists in Canada to perform.

 

Organizational Highlights:

  • Incorporated as a Non Profit Organization in Ontario: June 2011

  • North American tour from California, to Nova Scotia to Ontario: October 2010

  • Organizing Committee established in Ottawa: September 2009

  • First Major dance and musicĀ  production in Ottawa, at the Ottawa Little Theatre: August 2008

  • First Major dance and musicĀ  production for the Opening of the ICA Community Center in Winnipeg: April 2008

  • First Concert organized in Winnipeg featuring sarod artist Ranajit Sengupta: September 2005
